And We're Back

Five and a half years later and this site is back in action. Let's take her for a spin.

This may be the last.

As of today (officially yesterday), Typepad is in preview release. This means I have to either pony up the cash or let this bad boy slide away. I opt for the former as I have everything I need in Movable Type and don't want to spend money for an extra toy.

I have to say, I really liked TypePad and think it is the right choice for 80% of bloggers, but there are a lot of things I'd like to do with my site that can't be done in Typepad. So, Typepad, I bid you adieu. Our time together was wonderful and I'll treasure it forever. In this short time together I think I may have grown to love you. Sadly, I must return to my own land. I'm sorry.

Seriously, it's not you, it's me. [Kiss TypePad on the forehead, walk into the sunset]

How to Fight Loneliness

Before Safari crashed, I had crafted a sullen, dreary post about the sadness of my evening. Truth be told, my night was not that sad; I was just being aloof and wallowing in my self-imposed loneliness. I titled the post exactly as it is now and became proactive, instead of the name of the song I had on repeat.

First, I spoke with Lizzie and she had me read her livejournal, which explained how she set up an IM account for her 84 year-old grandfather. The post and the concept was really cute. This cheered me up.

Then, my ex-teacher and current friend, Neil, told me he is a father! On July 18th he and his wife welcomed Asher Moriel Berman Rigler into the world. The boy is cute and new babies were designed to cheer people up. I love babies and I love Rigs (my pet name for Neil). Here is a photo of the cute baby boy.

Nearly Caught

I just went to use the bathroom. After washing my hands I caught my reflection in the mirror. Of course, I began making faces at myself. As I was trying to bear my teeth and keep my face perfectly symetrical, someone walked in. I quickly released the look and must have had a new look of surprise since my coworker smiled at me.

I wonder if he knew what was happening. I'll never know.

I'm Goin' a Little Nuts

I am getting very annoyed with the non-Jew job. I know I have stated this before, but I don't like when I'm expected to do things that are above and beyond what I'm expected to do. This is especially true when I'm at least a week behind in my regular work.

Blah, I hate corporations.

Your Grandfather Hates My Shirt

I am currently wearing a new shirt that was designed to be worn inside out. They printed the stripped shirt, turned it inside out, put a breast pocket on it and now it is a shirt. It looks really cool but I just know that old people must be completely confused. Hell, I'm a little confused.

Harmony

I rarely have vivid dreams. It is unusual for me to even remember a dream at all. In the last week I have had two really vivid dreams. One was last night and and was inconsequencial, but the one I had over the weekend stuck with me for a while.

It involved a girl, whom I was clearly interested in. Most of the dream involved her giggling and me (figuratively) chasing her. She was ridiculously cute and I thought about fake girl for two days. It probably has something to do with girl(s) in my real life, or maybe not.

ANYWAY, the most vivid portion and my absolute favorite part was when I was in the bathroom with three other guys who were friends of mine but no one I know in real life. We were talking and at one point I made a medium-to-high pitched "ahhhhhhhhh" sound. Then we all looked at each other and I did it again, only to be followed by three new pitches by each of the guys that made one of the best harmonies I'd ever heard. You may or may not know that I have a secret fantasy of being in a barbershop quartet, so this moment was amazing and I wish this happened more in real life.

Blaaaaa. (a poem)

I am leaving for Canada tomorrow.
I was supposed to take off at noon.

You need a passport for international flights.
You can't show it to them at your stopover.

I didn't realize this until three hours ago.
I am now going standby at 7am.

My sleep schedule is ruined.
My alarm is set for 4:30am.

Why?
Why?

Jobs.

I am learning what kind of working environment is best for me. My non-Jew job is proving to be not-so-good. A big part of this is the people. I get along with the people just fine but I get along with mostly everyone just fine. At the Jew job I get along with people really well. I feel like I can be myself without getting funny looks. This is nice. I would love it if Jew job offered me a full-time position here but I don't have much say in the matter.* In the meantime, I am going to put my time in where it is needed most and where I have the most opportunity for advancement, at the Jew job.

Currently, I am exhausted. Not enough sleep and a little too much stress. Thankfully I'll get another dose of improv tonight to help me break out of this mini-funk.

*It would have been helpful if my boss hadn't just caught me creating this post.

(I would also like to point out that adding categories on the fly is a snap in TypePad.)

Riding to Work

I think I'm going to ride my bike to work tomorrow. Apparently it is 7.2 miles each direction. I think that's doable in 30-45 minutes, which is my normal travel time anyway. Unfortunately, I have to wear "nice clothes" to this job, so I don't know if it's the best idea, especially if it's hot out. Also, I've never ridden over the Manhattan Bridge so I'm not sure how that works. It does sound like a fun thing to do though. I could do it on Wednesday though, when I only have to go 6.6 miles and my attire can be much more relaxed.

If anyone's reading this, tell me what you think. Robbie, this means you.

TypePad Scaling

So far, TypePad has been excellent. It's missing a few things here and there, but nothing you wouldn't expect from a Beta. Best of all, it's lightning fast. This is my only concern for the service at is something that has plagued a number of sites. The two biggest offenders are Blogger and Friendster. I guess the essential difference here is that TypePad is going to be a pay service, so you won't have people clogging up the system just because they can. Still, this is probably their biggest hurdle on the way to success.

So. Many. People.

I am hosting a BBQ this Saturday night and there are a lot more people coming than I had expected. I figured something in the neighborhood of 20-30 and it appears to have jumped up to about 75. That is a lot of people.

On Saturday I'll be going with Robbie, my roommate, to buy meat and other acoutrements for the party. It's gonna be a lot of meat. Despite my concern for the structural integrity of our roof, I think that it's going to be a good time. Lots of good people and a lot of circle mixing. This is the way I like it.

Now, I just need to finish up the day at work. I really don't like work. I need to be doing something where I'm interacting with people. That's where I shine. That's a big part of the reason I will be a teacher in a couple years. So, another twenty minutes and I'm free to do as I please. Sweet.
